Capturing audio
How Zerds records both sides of a call and keeps them cleanly separated.
Dual-channel: Me and Others
Zerds records two channels and transcribes them separately onto one merged timeline:
- Me — your microphone.
- Others — system-audio loopback: the remote caller, video playback, anything else your machine plays.
During a recording you can mute either channel, or adjust its gain to boost a quiet mic or level a badly-mixed call.
Record just one app
Instead of the whole system mix, you can scope the Others channel to a single application — so notifications and background music don't end up in the transcript.
- Launch the target app first, then pick it from the app picker.
- The app must have played audio at least once to appear in the picker.
How capture works
On Windows, Zerds uses WASAPI — the same audio layer every application plays through — so there is no virtual cable to install and no per-app integration to wait for.
| Method | Channel | Captures |
|---|---|---|
| WASAPI loopback | Others | Whole-system audio |
| WASAPI per-app | Others | One process only |
| Microphone | Me | Your local mic input |
Zerds runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. All three are in beta.
Discord calls are captured differently — one clean track per participant. See Discord integration.
